ITANAGAR, May 13: Arunachal Pradesh Governor PB Acharya and First Lady Kavita Acharya on Friday gave away Governor’s Award for excellence to 11 children and wards of employees of Raj Bhavan and of associated departments. The award is for merit in academics, performing arts and sports.
Acharya congratulated the awardees and their guardians and expressed hope the young ones will maintain the level of excellence. “But don’t be bookworms. Be physically active too, for a healthy body can have a healthy mind,” he said.
The governor had instituted three categories of award with a view to bringing out the best in the children and wards of Raj Bhavan employees.
In Category 1, the awards went to Lingam Basar, daughter of PHED junior engineer Peli Basar, for securing 97% in class I, Amin Techi, daughter of deputy range forest officer Techi Khilli, for securing 96.5% in class V, and Ansh Roy, son of Bimal K Roy of the power department, for securing 94.5% in class II.
In Category 2, the awards went to Gayatri Bagbi, daughter of Tadam Bagbi of the Governor’s Secretariat, for securing 94.8% in class VII, Gochi Jaily, daughter of forest department’s Gochi Yaching, for scoring 9.5 CGPA in class VIII, and Aditya Singh, son of Sanjay Singh of Governor’s Secretariat, for scoring 8.6 CGPA in class VIII.
The recipients of Category 3 awards were Takar Bagi, of Tadam Bagbi of Governor’s Secretariat, for securing 82.2% in class IX, Arup Roy, son of horticulture department’s Ganesh Roy, for securing 69% in diploma in computer science and engineering, and Apu Techi, daughter of DRFO Techi Khilli, for securing 67.2% in class XII.
In performing arts, the award went to Bolen Biswas, son of horticulture department’s Nikhil Biswas, while Pinky Karki, daughter of PHED’s Jiten Karki and a BA third semester student, was awarded for excellence in sports.
Pinky has been participating in national and international badminton championships from time to time. She won the girls’ double and girls’ team event in North East Zone Inter-State Badminton Championship held in Meghalaya last year.
