PASIGHAT, Jun 10: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Saturday attended the Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sammelan here, which was inaugurated by Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram.

The event is part of a nationwide campaign to mark the completion of three years of Narendra Modi’s government at the Centre and to share the message of development among the citizens.

The event showcased the achievements of BJP government during the last three years. It attracted more than 200 people, including women and children from nearby areas, a report from the CMO said.

The chief minister hailed Pasighat as Arunachal’s oldest town and administrative centre that could not keep pace with development. He promised the state government’s support in speeding up progress in the town.

Khandu announced a civil secretariat for Pasighat and requested the local administration to bring in good consultant to prepare a DPR so that work could be started this year.

He said all projects announced for Pasighat such as JNC College Hostel and common festival ground has been sanctioned though the promise for a new market complex couldn’t start due to local issues over land. He asked the local administration to iron out niggles for work to start this year.

Lamenting that Arunachal is the only state in India that has no airport in its capital, the chief minister sought the people’s cooperation in this regard. A Central technical team selected Hollongi as the desired spot for airport but high demand for compensation has come in the way, he said.

“Once Itanagar airport is complete, air service across the state can be started with operation of fixed wing aircraft giving the much needed push for improving connectivity,” he said.

Khandu said the state government plans to use social media aggressively to connect with the people, and all departments will be given training on social media to use it effectively to disseminate information to the public. Training will also be imparted for educated youths and entrepreneurs on how to use social media to maximise their business.

Informing the people about various Central schemes for the poor and unemployed youths, the chief minister urged the people to avail of these schemes.

He said under BJP, work culture has greatly improved and chief ministers and ministers have to now send periodical reports to Centre. Union ministers have also been asked to visit the states once in every two months.

The chief minister BJP is the right party for Arunachal to be on the path of development. The state will transform under BJP, he asserted.

Oram announced Rs 69 crore for Arunachal under his ministry. He also announced a tribal research centre for the state.

He said the BJP government has special place for tribals in India. It is only under BJP, during former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure that a separate full-fledged ministry was formed to look after issues of tribal people.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said Prime Minister Modi has envisaged the development of the North East states and has given special impetus for road, air, railway, river and IT connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh. He added that the state government has made strides in achieving goals in these five areas of connectivity.

Mein said that railway will very soon be a reality and connect all important strategic places of the state including Tawang.

He also said that the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, the country’s longest inaugurated by the prime minister on May 26 and named after the legendary Bhupen Hazarika, will boost the tourism in the state and help market agri-horti products to other parts of the country.

“The bridge will also cater to the strategic requirements of the country for the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh. It will not only reduce the travel time between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh but will increase the industrial investments with better border trade between the Northeast and South Asian countries,” Mein added.

State BJP President Tapir Gao also spoke on the occasion. The welcome speech was delivered by Pasighat MLA Kaling Moyong.

The programme was attended by Power Minister Tamiyo Taga, RD Minister Alo Libang, Agriculture Parliamentary Secretary Tatung Jamoh, Advisor to CM Lombo Tayeng, MLA Kento Rina, and Pasighat DC Tamiyo Tatak besides BJP party officials, the report added.
