ITANAGAR, Jun 02: A devastating fire that broke out at 'P' Sector in Nirjuli on the wee hours of Friday has totally damaged 4 Type-II, SPT building government quarters and household properties of Tarh Nyakum, Gyamar Paro, Tadar Robin and Yowa Tabo.
On receipt of information, parliamentary secretary for rural development and town planning Techi Kaso along with Capital Complex DC Prince Dhawan visited the site and took first hand assessment of the losses suffered by the families.
Immediate relief to the tune of Rs 80,000/- was given on the spot by Kaso while, the DC also assured relief from the district administration’s end.
The EAC (Naharlagun) who was also present at site informed that the loss assessment is almost complete and all necessary formalities shall be completed soon.
Meanwhile, the Nirjuli Market Welfare Committee (NMWC) in a press statement informed that the destruction could have been much less had there been a fire station nearby as the fire tender had to be called from Naharlagun which is almost 7 km away.
Had the fire tender arrived on time the quantum of loss/damage could have been reduced and the incident has once again made it obligatory for placement of a fire tender at Nirjuli police station. This will help avert such fire accidents in the future, the committee stated.
Furthermore, the NMWC and Itanagar Municipality Council (IMC) deputy chief councilor Tarh Nachung has strongly appealed the state government to immediately provide fire tender services for Nirjuli.
