ITANAGAR, Mar 07: Wit the them ‘Ek Bharath Shreshtha Bharat’, the 15th edition of NSS North East Festival and the third in a row to be organized by Arunachal Pradesh was on Tuesday inaugurated by education commissioner Hage Kojeen at the Don Bosco College (DBC) here.
Addressing a of 300 registered participants from eight north eastern states and Uttar Pradesh, Kojeen called upon the participants to learn from each other and work towards greater national integration.
Youths are the bridge between change and continuity, tradition and modernity and they have a constructive role to play in nation building,” said the commissioner further exhorting the participants to be disciplined in life.
Kojeen further also conveyed the wishes of education minister Honchun Ngandam who was not able grace the occasion due to the ongoing assembly session.
Higher and Technical Education director Dr T Padu while speaking from personal experience as an NSS volunteer, exhorted the participants to learn about other north-eastern states through the programme and widen the horizons of their mind.
Earlier, while welcoming the guests and NSS volunteers, DBC principal Dr R K Guangdiat Nicholas called upon the volunteers to be true to the NSS motto, “Not me, but you”, and get rid of all selfish intentions while serving humanity.
Speaking about the NE NSS festival, NSS regional director Sunil Basumathari dwelt on the main objective of the festival, which is to bring the whole of North East under one platform and thus enable ‘bonding beyond borders’.
NSS deputy programme advisor Hemant Kumar Sharma spoke about the decision of Central government to pair each of the North Eastern states with other states of India and include them in North East NSS Festival with the concerned pairing state whenever it is organized.
“Arunachal being paired with Uttar Pradesh saw NSS volunteers from the state participate in the festivity,” informed Sharma.
NSS SLO in his vote of thanks expressed gratitude to all the officials from Delhi and Guwahati, NSS volunteers and programme officers for their help and cooperation.
The day also saw Dr V N Sharma being specially felicitated for the hard work he has put in and for his years of service to NSS and the department of education. Dr Sharma is due to retire this year.
