NEW DELHI, Mar 09: Demanding action on allegation in the dying declaration of former chief minister Kalikho Pul, operationalisation of Lokpal law, transparency in political funding, whistle blowers protection law etc, the National Campaign for Peoples’ Right to Information (NCPRI), Anti Corruption Team (Swaraj Abhiyan), Campaign for Judicial Accountability & Reform (CJAR) and National Alliance for Peoples’ Movements (NAPM) under the 'Bhrashtachaar se Azaadi' campaign took out a ‘Ghotala Rath Yatra’ at the nation’s capital here on Thursday.
Organized by Sawraj Abhiyan and supported by a conglomeration of big and small human rights groups from all over India and stalwarts like Medha Patkar, Aruna Roy, Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav etc, the rally which converted to a dharna at Jantar Mantar saw activists highlighting the long pending issues against corruption, growing attacks on free speech and dissenting voices and mostly importantly on lack of action on allegations in the dying declaration of Kalikho Pul.
Speaking to reporters, Dangwimsai Pul, wife of Kalikho Pul said that her demand of instituting an independent probe on the allegation leveled by her husband on various people including the judges and politicians in the 60 page suicide note Mere Vichaar is unheard till now.
“This is the reason why I have chosen the path of protesting in the street,” she said.
Accompanied by Arunachal Green Foundation chairman Takam Tatung, Dangwimsai, in Jantar Mantar, was seen sitting alongside CPM leader Prakash Karat, social activist Yogendra Yadav and prominent lawyer Prashant Bhushan.
Expressing surprise over the deafening silence of Arunachal Pradesh government on the case, the activists who spoke on the occasion opined that the government must give an answer to the call of the people.
Everyone is surprised over the deafening silence of the Arunachal Pradesh government. It (government) must give an answer to the call of the people. It is ironical that people who probably didn't even know late Pul, who are living thousands of miles away from his home state are fighting for his cause, whereas his former colleagues back home are silent,” said Yogendra Yadav.
“There surely must be grave reasons for such stance of the political corridors of Arunachal,” he added.
