Los Angeles, May 31: US comedian Kathy Griffin has apologised for being pictured holding up a bloodied head resembling Donald Trump.
The comic wrote alongside a video posted to Instagram: “I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong.”
She said: “I beg for your forgiveness.”
The gruesome photos were taken in a shoot with celebrity photographer Tyler Shields, who is known for work depicting violence.
In 2010, Shields photographed Lindsay Lohan brandishing a gun.
Ms Griffin said that since she is a comedian, “I cross the line. I move the line, then I cross it. I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it.”
The president’s son, Donald Trump Jr, was swift to condemn the images.
This is vile and wrong. It is never funny to joke about killing a president. https://t.co/zIiuKoMyFw
